Not original

So it turns out there are couch orphan blogs. Apparently abandoned couches are part of the street furniture that graffiti artists love. I have to admit, I've been tempted to take pictures of couches, sofas, chesterfields, whatever. Here's a batch I've been meaning to post:

Adopted

My definition of a chair orphan continues to take shape. A chair that's for sale in a store, garage sale or any other type of business is not an orphan. How about a chair that's part of a heap in the back of a pick-up truck? Probably an orphan.

But the following chairs are not orphans because I've adopted them:

This chair, they say, originated from The Breaker's Pub in Point Roberts. No doubt it's seen some good times.

The chair below is the one that got this whole chair-orphan ball rolling. I can see it all refurbished, sporting some plush brown velvet upholstery. I'll have to save my pennies though - that kind of face lift doesn't come cheap.

Chair deletion

That's what happens when you leave your pictures on your camera rather than saving them. I was collectng a few more chair orphan pictures to post here, but then accidentally deleted them. I hope I've learned my lesson.

Note: after writing this sad treatise on chair deletion, I discover the pictures (though not very impressive) are actually not at all deleted, but safely stored on my memory stick.

Needs a little sandpaper and a few nails

...but it could be all shiny and new in time for patio season.

A motley crew

Today's run was around a rougher neighbourhood, an behold a rougher collection of orphans.

But this one, though in a rough neighbourhood, is holding up very well. It needs a home with lots of space. I hope someone picks it up before the rain starts.

Not an orphan

This is John's chair. He found it in an alley, refinished the wood and had it re-upholstered. Just goes to show how great a chair orphan can be.

Chair attachment

Look at these lovely three. This chair orphan thing is starting to get to me. It's almost as bad as going to the SPCA - I want to adopt them all: two sturdy wooden chairs and look at the one in the middle - all retro and angular - kind of like a car seat on legs. Sigh - I wish I could take them all home. Well I hope someone picks them up and they won't be left out in the elements.

Moving day brings out the orphan chairs

The little red chair above was quite sturdy and would look quite nice in a small space, once it's re-upholstered. But I'm not here to collect chairs.
The set a the top: classic 70s!

Rocking the 80s

This chair, no doubt, was designed in the 1980s when hair was spiky and interiors sported pink and grey.

My definition

On today's outing, the subject on my mind was how am I to define a chair orphan? A chair on someone's porch, no matter how neglected, is not an orphan. A chair in someone's yard is probably not an orphan.

This one was in someone's yard, but judging by it's postion - it's an orphan.

Just as cuteoverload.com has come up with criteria for cuteness, I will have to decide how I will define a chair orphan.

The view from chaise moi

These chairs live in the alley behind my house. One day I saw someone sitting in the office chair - I should have got a picture of that.

Chair today, gone tomorrow

After rescuing a sad upholstered chair last year, I've noticed how many lonely chairs are left by the wayside - perfectly good chairs, sometimes even super chairs. And while I can't keep them all, I shall record them here and hope they find good homes with people who appreciate them.
